Step 1 · Learn

Walkthrough

Read this first — it covers the idea in plain language with a worked example.

Two formulas to memorize

  1. 1Circumference: C = πd (or C = 2πr).
  2. 2Area: A = πr² (radius times itself, then times π).
Worked example

A circle has radius 5 cm. Find its circumference and area (use π ≈ 3.14).

  1. →Circumference: C = 2πr = 2 × 3.14 × 5 = 31.4 cm.
  2. →Area: A = πr² = 3.14 × 5² = 3.14 × 25 = 78.5 cm².

Watch out

For area you square the radius (r × r), not double it. Squaring and doubling are very different.
